The Motability Scheme enables disabled people to lease a new car, scooter or powered wheelchair, using their Government funded mobility allowance . If you are not the disabled person, but are acting on their behalf as an appointee or nominee, you may be able to access the scheme on their behalf. Appointees are solely responsible for collecting state benefits for the disabled person and for deciding how they are used. They are assigned by the Department for Work and Pensions and are usually a family member.
An appointee may be needed when the disabled person is under 16 years old or unable to look after their own affairs. If you are unsure if you are an appointee, you can check directly with the DWP on 03457 123456.
